December 2, 2025 – Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

On December 2, 2025, FUWAVITA (Tanzania Joy Women Entrepreneurship for the Deaf) celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) 2025 under the theme:

“Empower, to Lead & Accomplish.”

To mark the occasion, FUWAVITA organized a Leadership Training Skills Program for Women with Disabilities in the Dar es Salaam Region, bringing together women leaders, entrepreneurs, and an ADR disability inclusion expert. The event took place at Stanbic Bank Tan House.

ESS Delivers Training on Inclusive Legal Services

ESS Creative and Legal Foundation was honored to contribute to this important International celebration. Erick Mukiza, the Executive Director of ESS and an Accredited mediator by the Ministry of Constitutional and Legal Affairs and ADR Policy expert, was invited as one of the facilitators of the Leadership Training Skills Program.

Erick delivered a specialized session on Inclusive mediation, focusing particularly on how women with disabilities can effectively access timely and affordable justice through:

  • Inclusive Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)
  • Inclusive mediation processes
  • Their rights to reasonable accommodation within the justice system
  • Tools and communication supports such as sign language, Communication Access Real-Time Translation (CART), captioning, braille, and simplified procedures.
  • How inclusive mediation can help resolve business, family, and community disputes

His training emphasized that “when mediation becomes inclusive, justice becomes possible”, reinforcing the need for accessible legal pathways for persons with disabilities, especially women who often face attitudinal discrimination.

The leadership training equipped participants with the skills and confidence to:

  • Understand the protections on reasonable accommodation provided under Tanzania’s Persons with Disabilities Act, 2010, and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)
  • Engage in dispute resolution processes.
  • Understand the benefits of inclusive mediation.

The session formed part of ESS’s broader commitment to advancing inclusive justice and accessible alternative dispute resolution across Tanzania.

A Shared Commitment to Inclusion

ESS Creative and Legal Foundation extends its gratitude to FUWAVITA, Mobility International USA (MIUSA), Stanbic Bank, and all partners who contributed to making the event meaningful and impactful. The celebration of IDPD 2025 served as a reminder that inclusive leadership begins with accessible knowledge, supportive spaces, and cross-sector collaboration.

ESS remains committed to supporting women leaders with disabilities by identifying, empowering, and including them in the Tanzanian justice system
