On August 6, 2025, ESS Creative and Legal Foundation had the honor of hosting Mr. Goodluck Peter Chuwa, who is experienced ADR Practitioner and also a Deputy Principal of the Institute of Judicial Administration (IJA), at our office in Dar es Salaam. His visit marked a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to strengthen inclusive access to justice through community-based mediation.
Mr. Chuwa, an accredited Mediator, Negotiator, Reconciliator, and Arbitrator, has over 20 years of experience in dispute resolution, contract negotiations, legal reform, and legislative drafting. During his visit, he expressed appreciation for ESS’s approach in empowering community leaders—especially those working with underserved populations such as People with disabilities (PWDs), Women entrepreneurs, Widows and widowers, Youth and school students, Rural and low-income communities, Informal sector workers, small business owners, and Elderly persons.
Mr. Goodluck Peter Chuwa, Experienced ADR Practitioner & Erick Mukiza Accredited Mediator and Executive Director of ESS
He agreed on the importance of inclusive, community-driven mediation as a sustainable and peaceful approach to resolving disputes and reducing the burden on formal court systems. Mr. Chuwa pledged his support through technical guidance for community mediation empowerment, provision of curriculum resources, and strengthening the capacity of local leaders engaged in resolving disputes at the grassroots level.
This engagement reflects growing recognition of the role community mediation can play in complementing formal justice systems, and aligns with national efforts to promote alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms.
At ESS, we are encouraged by this support and look forward to building partnerships that advance our shared goal: a justice system that is more timely, accessible, inclusive, and rooted in the realities of everyday life in communities across Tanzania.
