On 19 August 2026, Erick Mukiza, Executive Director of ESS Creative and Legal Foundation and an Accredited Mediator, led and facilitated an awareness workshop on mediation for disputants and private advocates at the High Court Mediation Center.

The initiative was conducted in collaboration with the Judiciary of Tanzania. Erick was introduced by Hon. Rahel Kangagha, Principal Resident Magistrate and Judge’s Legal Assistant.

During the awareness session, Erick highlighted the benefits of mediation as an effective and less adversarial approach to resolving disputes. He also explained how parties can access mediation services outside the court through accredited mediation institutions, including ESS Creative and Legal Foundation.

The discussion also focused on Section 13 of the Civil Procedure Code, Cap. 33 R.E. 2023, which provides for mediation outside the court as a statutory mandatory requirement. The provision encourages parties to make genuine efforts to resolve their disputes before resorting to litigation.

Through such awareness initiatives, ESS continues to promote accessible, timely, and effective dispute resolution while supporting judicial efforts to strengthen the use of mediation in Tanzania.
