ESS Mediation Team
On 3rd August 2026, Hon. Rahel Kangagha, Principal Resident Magistrate and Judge’s Legal Assistant, led and facilitated an awareness session on mediation for disputants at the High Court Mediation Center Open Court. She was accompanied by Erick Mukiza, Executive Director of ESS Creative and Legal Foundation and an Accredited Mediator.
The initiative was conducted in collaboration with the Judiciary of Tanzania through the High Court Mediation Center.
The session focused on the role and benefits of mediation in resolving disputes efficiently and amicably. Discussions also highlighted Section 13 of the Civil Procedure Code, Cap. 33 R.E. 2023, which provides for mediation outside the court as a statutory mandatory requirement. The provision encourages parties to make genuine efforts to resolve their disputes before resorting to litigation.
Through such awareness initiatives, ESS continues to collaborate with the Judiciary through the High Court Mediation Center and the Ministry of Constitutional and Legal Affairs through the Dispute Resolution Division to strengthen the use of mediation in Tanzania.
