ESS Creative and Legal Foundation was featured on pages 16 and 17 of the December 2025 issue of Treasure of Mediation, the Journal of the High Court Mediation Centre. The feature includes an article by Erick Mukiza, titled ‘Key Challenges in Implementing Mediation in Rural Areas,’ alongside photographs documenting community mediation activities in Ibuga Ward, Muleba District, Kagera Region.
The feature highlights ESS’s community mediation work in Ibuga Ward, Muleba District, Kagera Region, and examines five key challenges affecting mediation in rural Tanzania. These include inadequate compensation for informal mediators, the use of judgment instead of mediation, misleading legal advice from "bush lawyers", lack of legal documentation, and incomplete land demarcation.
The article recommends practical mediation training and capacity-building for community leaders, supported by collaboration among the Judiciary, development partners, and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) institutions.
This recognition highlights the importance of ESS’s work in promoting accessible, community-based mediation and strengthening dispute resolution at the local level.
