On 2nd February 2026, Erick Mukiza, Executive Director of ESS Creative and Legal Foundation, participated in a high level training session organized by the 3VB International Advisory and Dispute Resolution Unit based in London, United Kingdom. The training focused on Alternative Dispute Resolution in the sectors of energy, infrastructure, and water disputes, with an additional emphasis on public international law.

The session was facilitated by experienced and highly respected ADR practitioners, namely Dr. Jane Davies Evans KC, Dr. Christopher Ward SC, and Madeline Kimei FCIArb, FTIArb. Their combined expertise provided a rich and practical learning environment that bridged theory with real world dispute resolution practice.

During the training, the facilitators explored key issues currently giving rise to disputes in the energy and natural resources sectors. Particular attention was given to the increasing complexity of infrastructure and water related disputes and the role of ADR mechanisms in addressing these challenges effectively and efficiently.

Participants were also guided on how to navigate the different dispute resolution forums applicable to such disputes. These included dispute boards, commercial dispute resolution mechanisms, and investor state dispute processes. The discussions highlighted strategic considerations when selecting appropriate forums and the importance of tailoring dispute resolution approaches to the specific nature of each dispute.

Erick Mukiza’s participation in this international training marks an important step in strengthening ESS Creative and Legal Foundation’s engagement with global ADR developments. The training further extends our collaboration with international ADR practitioners and institutions, reinforcing our commitment to adopting best practices and global standards in dispute resolution.

ESS Creative and Legal Foundation continues to invest in capacity building and international partnerships to enhance access to effective, innovative, and context responsive alternative dispute resolution mechanisms at both community and institutional levels.
