On 29 April 2026, ESS Creative and Legal Foundation convened a focused working session with leaders from 12 disability associations at the High Court Mediation Center in Dar es Salaam. The session was dedicated to planning an upcoming inclusive mediation training tailored to leaders representing diverse disability groups.
The initiative builds on prior engagement with deaf leaders conducted in 2024 in collaboration with the High Court Mediation Center. It also continues the momentum generated during ADR Week 2026, reinforcing the growing emphasis on alternative dispute resolution mechanisms within Tanzania’s justice system.
The session was officially launched by Hon. Augustina Mmbando, Deputy Registrar at the High Court Mediation Center, accompanied by Court Administrator Ms. Hellen Mkumbwa. Their participation underscored the judiciary’s commitment to expanding access to inclusive mediation.
ESS Creative and Legal Foundation coordinated the session in collaboration with FUWAVITA, the High Court Mediation Center and the Ministry of Constitutional and Legal Affairs. Discussions focused on designing a structured and inclusive training program that equips disability leaders with practical mediation skills. The program will also strengthen collaboration between the judiciary, disability organizations, the Ministry of Constitutional and Legal Affairs, and ADR stakeholders.
The planned training is expected to enhance the capacity of disability leaders to engage in dispute resolution processes effectively and to promote mediation within their communities. This effort directly supports judicial mandate under Article 107A(2)(d) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania, 1977 as amended time to time, which emphasizes the strengthening and promotion of amicable dispute resolution.
In addition, the initiative aligns with the National Vision 2050, which identifies mediation as a key mechanism for improving timely access to justice. By investing in inclusive capacity building, ESS and its collaborators are contributing to a more accessible and responsive justice system that serves all citizens.
